What’s the difference between Juvéderm fillers?

Juvederm fillers in Pittsburgh PA

The rising popularity of dermal fillers has lead to the creation of many different types, each with their own benefits and drawbacks. While having more choice is a good thing, we know that choosing between filler treatments can get confusing.

If you have been considering an injectable filler, but are confused by all of the types available, we are here to uncloak the mystery for you.

At Aesthetic Skin & Laser Center, we use many types of fillers, depending on your needs. Today, we will focus on products from Allergan®, the makers of the Juvéderm® family of injectables.

Tell me more about Juvéderm

Juvéderm is the top selling collection of hyaluronic acid fillers in the United States. Each product in the collection adds volume to a different area of the face.

Juvéderm is a soft and stable injectable gel made of hyaluronic acid. The advantage of the Juvéderm line of products is that supple gel consistency provides a natural-looking appearance.

What are the types of Juvéderm fillers?

There are different types of Juvéderm products that address different skin concerns. During your consultation at Aesthetic Skin & Laser Center, Dr. Barad will discuss which products are best for you. In general, to soften moderate to severe lines around the nose and mouth, Juvéderm Vollure XC and Juvéderm XC are recommended. Juvéderm Voluma XC is used to add volume to your cheeks and temples. Juvéderm Volbella XC is ideal for finer lines around the lips and eyes, and can also be used for under-eye hollows. If plumper lips is the goal, then try Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC. This product is also used to smooth parentheses lines between the nose and mouth or down to the chin.

Will it hurt?

The Juvéderm line of products from Allergan® includes lidocaine, a safe and mild numbing agent, so you should have little pain. Some areas of the face are more sensitive than others, so your level of discomfort will be influenced by where the injectable is used. If you are really sensitive to pain, we can apply a topical anesthetic, or we can use Pronox, an inhaled gas that controls anxiety and discomfort and is ideal for those bothered by needles. Once the injection is done, we might gently massage and ice the area. Then, you’re good to go!

How long will a treatment take and what’s the downtime?

Typically, Juvéderm treatments take between 30 – 60 minutes, depending on the area being treated and the amount and type of dermal filler that we use. It all depends on what you want to have treated and what Dr. Barad recommends for you. You will see immediate results.

Downtime with Juvéderm is minimal, so you can get back to your normal routine right away. Side effects may include tenderness, bruising, swelling, and redness at the injection site, which generally resolves within a few days. Aesthetic Skin & Laser Center offers an anti-bruising protocol to help you minimize the risk of bruising. We also offer laser treatment for bruises, if needed, to help them resolve quicker.
