SculpSure™ verses Coolsculpting®

Find Out Why Dr. Barad only uses SculpSure™

Do you exercise regularly and watch your diet? Are you still, after all of that work, trying to sculpt away nasty areas of fat and cellulite? Come to ASLC and melt that fat away with SculpSure™!

You may have heard about other techniques for getting rid of unwanted fat, such as CoolSculpting®, but did you know that this procedure may cause some potentially unsafe and unwanted side effects? That’s why Dr. Barad does not use it. Rather, she has endorsed SculpSure™, a newer and more effective way to get rid of unwanted body fat.

“I had been following the non-invasive fat melting market and waited for a system that provided consistently good results without pain or adverse events, and in a reasonable time frame”, says Dr. Barad, “We were early adopters with SculpSure, because it delivered on all these aspects. I am happy to note that our patients have not been disappointed!”

Breakdown of Fat Cells with Body Contouring Treatments

SculpSure and CoolSculpting are both FDA cleared procedures for body contouring treatments to reduce unwanted body fat. Both reduce fat by prompting the breakdown of fat cells, which are then metabolized by the body and removed as waste. That’s where the similarities end.

SculpSure consists of four flat applicators placed on the treatment area. The procedure is a non-suction, non-invasive laser lipolysis treatment designed to permanently destroy stubborn fat in the treated area. The laser safely penetrates beneath the skin to the underlying subcutaneous tissue during the treatment; patients will feel intervals of warm and cool sensations. Treatments take 25 minutes vs. 35–60 minutes with CoolSculpting.

Resuming to Normal Activity after SculpSure Treatment

After the treatment is completed, additional areas can be treated on the same day. Patients can resume normal activities. Over time, the destroyed cells are gradually removed by the body’s lymphatic system. SculpSure is a 1064 nm laser that focuses on the subcutaneous tissue and safe to treat all skin types. With SculpSure, up to four applicators are used at one time to fit the desired area and destroy up to 24% of unwanted fat cells. In some cases, two areas can be done simultaneously. Patients can leave the clinic and get right back to work or play, no downtime! Patients are advised to treat the area again 4–6 weeks later.

CoolSculpting Liable Side Effects

CoolSculpting is a cryolipolysis treatment where the subcutaneous tissues are suctioned into an applicator using a vacuum mechanism. However, an incorrect assessment can cause blotchiness or indentations. It is necessary to knead or massage the treated area before the patient can leave. CoolSculpting reduces fat cells by up to only 22%. The thermal spread from SculpSure provides a natural looking result, rather than the uneven results on areas with CoolSculpting.

6 Reasons to Choose SculpSure over Coolsculpting

1. No recovery time is needed.

2. Treatments take about 25 minutes per session.

3. Four applicators can be used at once, which saves both time and money.

4. Multiple areas can be treated at the same time

5. People of any age or body type can benefit from the treatment.

6. Results can be seen in as early as 6 weeks, with final results after about 12 weeks.

Microblading Your Way to Beautiful Brows

Microblading Your Way to Beautiful Brows

Eyebrows are a critical facial focus. They frame your face, make your eyes pop and give you a finished look. But, very few of us have naturally perfect brows.

While there are many solutions to perfect brows out there in the marketplace, the solution that is most natural-looking is microblading (or eyebrow embroidery). In about 1 or 2 hours, depending on your needs, and with little invasiveness and minimal discomfort, you can have beautiful brows that last about one year, at which time a touch up is usually required. It is considered semi-permanent compared to permanent make-up eyebrows tattooed by machine.

So, exactly what is microblading? It’s a process that uses medical grade tattoo pigment to create brow hairs mimicking the ones you already have. Instead of a traditional tattoo that fills in an area, microblading is a series of manually applied small lines that look like actual hairs. It is an art form to give you the trompe l’oeil look of real brows. The process uses an intricate and specialized hand took with very fine needles which provide a vehicle for the pigment to be deposited into the skin and create a beautiful natural finished look. Because the lines are closer to the surface of the skin, they appear crisp and very fine, just like eyebrow hairs.

Our eyebrow specialist, Carissa, will start with the curve, arch, thickness and color of your existing brow and build from there. It doesn’t matter whether you have great brows that just need a small boost or skimpy brows that need to be filled in and enhanced. The process is basically the same.

Using a marker, the aesthetician will draw an arched brow on your face following natural contours and you’ll have the opportunity to adjust it to your liking. This drawing-on process ensures that you are getting the brows you dream of. Your brow area will be cleaned and numbed and the process will be begin.

Unlike traditional permanent make-up application, microblading creates individual strokes so that the appearance resembles eyebrow hairs. The process is intricate and meticulous. Microblading is all about attention to detail. Carissa, our microblading expert, uses HD and 3D microblading techniques, which allows for the most natural appearing brows.

There is no down time. After the procedure, you will need to apply an ointment until the area heals entirely, which is about one week.

Whether you are someone who just needs a little help achieving the perfect arch or someone whose brows are skimpy, microblading is a wonderful look, and HD and 3D microblading offers the best, most natural results. Be done with eyebrow make-up – just get up and go!

Breast Cancer Screenings are More Accurate than Ever

Every day is busy: juggling work, family, your social life, and every task in between. Time comes and goes in a blink of an eye, and sometimes things just don’t get done. And that’s okay! We totally understand.

Even though not everything can be checked off of your list, annual breast screenings should be an utmost priority for you. Firstly the exam can give you peace of mind if no signs appear. Secondly, catching breast cancer in the early stages can be essential for a full recovery.

Breast exams can be extremely uncomfortable and bruising. It’s understandable why people try to avoid them every year. Here at Aesthetic Skin & Laser Center, we offer screenings through a non-invasive process called Thermography. This Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging is a non-invasive clinical procedure that contains no harmful radiation, is painless, and there is no contact with the body. The accuracy is substantial, showing any nuances of pre-cancerous abnormalities before issues become more serious. There are no side effects, so you can feel confident in knowing you are receiving no harm and getting an effective screening.

Here’s a visual of how it detects abnormalities.

Vascular circulation increases in pre-cancerous problem areas, causing the temperature of those spots to increase. Our technology uses hyper sensitive lasers to detect all changes of temperature, no matter how small. Our technology then detects, analyzes and produces visual heat map images of the body. Thermography is the most accurate technology on the market for detecting the earliest signs of breast cancer.

Do your body the greatest favor and schedule your breast exam today! You deserve it.

Walking on Sunshine: Sexy Legs Edition

Know Your Laser

When getting any treatment, it is absolutely necessary to know your lasers. Laser accuracy and quality varies, and not all estheticians provide good lasers. At Aesthetic Skin & Laser Center, we are committed to providing top-of-the-line lasers. Each of our estheticians are highly qualified and have a vast of experience. Our quality service is important, because we know the ways to make your procedure as comfortable as possible throughout the entire process.

Laser Hair Removal

Smooth legs have never felt lighter. Just imagine: never having to shave your legs again. No prickles, no razor burn, no cuts, no buying razors or shaving cream. It’s time to take control of your legs… forever.

We use lasers that emit light energy and heat to target and penetrate hair follicles. The laser destroys each follicle, disabling new hair growth and not affecting the surrounding skin cells. You’ll see improvement after the first session, and continued improvement with each session.

Having smooth legs has never been easier. Pricing is customized to fit your procedure goals.

Spider Vein Removal

Spider Veins are frustrating and impossible to get rid of without help. Spider veins tend to occur when blood gets backed up in veins, making them swell. These enlarged veins can cause pain, itching, and swelling. It’s time to take control of the appearance of your legs and relieve yourself of unnecessary pains.

Excel V™ is a fast acting way to remove spider veins with its dual-laser system that effortlessly removes hard spots. This FDA approved treatment is the most affordable method for removing frustrating superficial veins. Excel V™’’s green light targets red vessels and the infrared light targets blue issue vessels. The dual-laser light causes the blood vessels to close, eventually being absorbed by the body.

Body Sculpting: One Size Does Not Fit All

Every person’s body is different. Every person has unique concerns. That’s why we have multiple procedures to help our patients reach their body sculpting goals. It is not realistic to think that one procedure will be the most effective for every individual interested in body sculpting.

We offer two amazing procedures that can help you reach your goals: SculpSure(™) and SlimLipo(R). Don’t worry, we’ll explain the difference and recommend the option that fits your needs best.

SlimLipo- Laser Liposuction

The ideal candidate for SlimLipo is not significantly overweight, but has trouble areas where it is difficult to get rid of accumulated fat deposits.

SlimLipo is an ideal treatment for those who seek to eliminate fat from certain areas of the body but may be intimidated by traditional liposuction, as the procedu , produces quicker results and recovery, and only requires local anesthesia. The procedure is ideal for many areas of the body: abdomen, back, buttocks, jowls, neck, love handles, male chest, thighs, and upper arms.

The laser melts fat and then removes it with gentle suction, tightening the surrounding skin through soft tissue coagulation, firming and contouring. The procedure usually only takes one session for optimal results.

The procedure takes 1-2 hours and some of our patients report that they return back to work the next day!

You will experience results within a week, and will continue to see improvements for 3-6 months.

SculpSure™

SculpSure is perfect for individuals that desire a non-invasive procedure and have a BMI of 30% or less. The FDA has approved SculpSure™ for more trouble spots like love handles, back, inner thighs, outer thighs, buttocks, and upper arms that are still an issue even after diet and exercise. In fact, SculpSure™ can be applied to almost any body part as determined by Dr. Barad.

The hyperthermic action of SculpSure™ heats your fat cells, causing them to detach from your inner tissues. Once they’ve been removed, the body considers them unnecessary tissue and will filter them through your body just as they would any other loose tissue or particles

The procedure only takes 25 minutes and the procedure is completely noninvasive and you can return back to work immediately.

Results can be seen starting at 6 weeks, with optimal results around 12 weeks.

It’s Not Your Fault: It’s Genetics

Deep laugh lines, jowls and wrinkles aren’t necessarily just caused by age. 60% of how your skin develops is intrinsically determined by the genetics that were passed down to you. Only 40% of how your skin ages is due to non-genetic factors.

Although there are great contributors to facial sagging and wrinkles such as sun-exposure, smoking, age, and weight loss, genetics is still a large contributor. You inherit facial patterns that your parents possess that can increase your likelihood of wrinkles, especially crows feet and laugh lines. Deep laugh lines are very likely to be caused by genetics, especially if they appear when you’re young. These lines are a part of who you are, but can become overwhelmingly prominent with age.

Deep jowls can also be caused by genetics, and tend to appear during the natural aging process. Early appearances of jowls are extremely likely to be a genetic predisposition and can even occur with the most careful skin care routine.

Luckily, there is a simple solution for all of these genetic susceptibilities while still maintaining the authenticity of your natural face shape and gentle laugh lines. Even though the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, there are solutions to keeping the apple from falling.

Silhouette InstaLift™ is the latest in cosmetic innovation that lifts sagging skin to minimize jowls, decreases deep smile lines and helps cheek contours. Silhouette InstaLift™ is an FDA approved, non-surgical cosmetic procedure, producing a lifting of the cheeks and jawline and helps redefine the natural contours of the face. Silhouette InstaLift™ uses absorbable sutures with bidirectional cones to lift and reposition the skin. Improvement is seen immediately and lifting and volumizing continues for 3 to 6 months, as the body naturally absorbs the sutures and this absorption process stimulates the production of collagen in the areas of placement. Results typically last between 18-24 months.

Reining in Rosacea

Reining in Rosacea

Do you feel like your skin conditions have held you back from living the life you deserve? Low confidence levels can leave us feeling too embarrassed, vulnerable, or hesitant to take the lead in our path to social and professional success. Don’t let unsightly veins, acne, or rosacea control your life any longer.

The National Rosacea Society reports that more than 75% of people with rosacea suffer from lower self-esteem and confidence. These emotional stressors can then aggravate the condition even more, fast tracking the cyclical nature of low self-esteem. This cycle of low self-esteem can inhibit us from taking lead roles, saying yes to life’s spontaneous twists and turns, and missing opportunities along the way.

Those of us with low confidence due to highly visible aesthetic conditions such as spider veins, rosacea, and acne can easily allow these issues to dominate our decision making. Confidence and success go hand in hand. Higher confidence levels lead to improved performance, relationships, and happiness. The Aesthetic Skin & Laser Center is ready to give you the confidence you need to overcome your insecurities, open new doors, and finally take charge of your life.

Excel V, the most advanced laser technology on the market, has been FDA approved for dermatological and vascular conditions such as varicose veins, acne scars, and rosacea. This laser has revolution laser treatments of the past with improvements across the board. Excel V is faster, more effective, and more affordable than other treatment options. What are you waiting for? You have nothing to lose but more opportunities. Call today and give yourself the social and professional boost you’ve been waiting for.

Thermography Pinpoints Your Pains and Diseases

Thermography is the only current method available for creating a visual pain and pathology map. This screening procedure is able to detect and monitor a wide range of diseases, injuries, and conditions. It is a non-invasive process that takes pictures of your infrared image, and can be done on any part of the body. It is completely painless and has no contact with your body.

Unexplained Pain

It’s frustrating to have unexplained chronic body pain. Thermography can pinpoint the troubled areas, so that therapy or treatments can be assigned accordingly.

Breast Disease

The average sensitivity and specificity of a Thermography breast exam is 90%. Breast thermography can detect the first signs of cancer formation by up to 10 years earlier than other procedures.

Fibromyalgia

Widespread muscle pain and tenderness can be hard to explain to a doctor.
Thermography locates the trouble spots.

Back Injuries

After physical distress, injuries to the back can sideline an individual. Identifying the areas of the back that are causing issues is the first step to recovery.

Hypothermia

Hypothermia, arthritis and carpal tunnel can all be located with thermography.

Fractures

The picture above shows a fractured left rib and sternum. After accidents, thermography is much more comfortable than getting lifted onto an x-ray table. Thermography is noninvasive and painless.

Cancer

Thermography can indicate signs of cancer up to ten years before any other method, and can indicate trouble spots to watch for in your body before cancer even begins to metastasize.

Sprain/Strain

Thermography easily indicates sprains and strains.

Dental and TMJ

Thermography shows inflammation zones that are caused by inflamed teeth, and can show specific tension zones that are caused by TMJ.

Inflammatory Pain

Inflammatory pain can be chronic and intense. Thermography identifies these areas and shows you exactly where the most irritated trouble spots are in your body.

Other abnormalities that thermography can detect and monitor include:

  • Referred Pain Syndrome
  • RSD
  • Stroke Screening
  • Digestive Disorders
  • Whiplash
  • Referred Pain Syndrome
  • Nerve Damage
  • Vascular Disease
  • Skin Cancer
  • Arthritis
  • Artery inflammation
  • Disc Disease

Aging Gracefully

Aging Gracefully

There’s no way around it. All organs begin to lose some function and resilience over time. By age 30, our bone and muscle density begins to diminish1. Skin, as the body’s largest organ (not to mention the most environmentally vulnerable organ), is no exception. Skin is our body’s first line of defense for all heat, light, chemical, and physical threats. We have the amazing opportunity to protect and maintain our body’s largest and most versatile organ through everyday lifestyle changes. Not only do these healthy habits help protect our skin from external threats, they can also help us age gracefully with less fine lines, superficial wrinkles, sun spots, and other tell-tale signs of age and distress. Read on to learn how to fight wrinkles and sun damage at any age.

In your 20’s, focusing on protection is key. Think sunscreen and sunglasses year-round, daily moisturizers, and avoiding tanning beds like the plague. Sunscreen should be at least SPF 30 or more. We recommend pairing your daily sunscreen with Fernblock, an innovative plant-based (Polypodium Leucotomos) product with the photo-protective properties needed to prevent superficial lines and skin cancer through daily ultraviolet exposure2. Couple these products with daily exfoliation and cleansing to ward off future wrinkles. We recommend the Clarisonic skin care brush or the Pulsaderm Buddy to scrub off dead skin cells, clean pores and enhance cleaning before applying your skin care products.

By the time you hit your 30’s, you’ll probably start to see some crow’s feet, smile lines, or worry lines. Fear not! Keep up your daily skin care routine noted above, and add Dr Barad Illuminated SkinCare to your arsenal. The holistic line can be customized to your particular skin concerns that generally become evident by this age. This is often a time that Botox or Dysport use starts, as they help control frowns and crows feet.

In your 40’s, attention to skin care is even more important. It’s a good time to add retinoids, if you haven’t done so already. Topical retinoids are considered to be somewhat of a “cure-all” for skin conditions such as acne, wrinkles, and psoriasis. They have collagen stimulating effects which smooth skin over time, as well as doing a wonderful job unclogging and cleansing pores and improving overall skin tone and pigmentation. We recommend Dr Barad Illuminated SkinCare Intense Retinol, as it combines the retinol with stem cells and unique antioxidants selected specifically because of their synergistic ability to intensify the beneficial effects of retinoids.

The 40’s are often a time that facial volume loss becomes a problem, so using fillers or Sculptra can help reverse these aging changes.

In your 50’s and beyond, it’s all about maintaining! Of course, the regimen noted above needs to continue as part of the maintenance plan. You may need to switch to a different moisturizer and add hydration, and perhaps consider bio-identical hormones. The changes in our estrogens, progesterone and testosterone levels during peri-menopause, and especially once in menopause, can reduce our body’s natural production of collagen and leave us looking and feeling dry, deflated and sallow. Fillers and Sculptra can be used to smooth deeper wrinkles, stimulate the production of collagen and recreate youthful contours. This is also a time that InstaLift, a procedure using special absorbable sutures to re-suspend facial sagging, may be beneficial.

Of course, there are benefits from lasers and light sources that can help with rejuvenation maintenance at any age! We are fortunate to have so many options to keep us looking our best and aging gracefully – without having to resort to invasive procedures.

It’s never too late (or too early) to start a healthy skin care routine for aging gracefully. Grab yourself some Dr Barad Illuminated SkinCare products to keep your skin healthy and vibrant all year long! Note that your skin care regimen may need seasonal modifications – so let us help you find the right products to address your concerns!
